The Teide Observatory welcomed nearly a thousand visitors during its Open House Days, an annual initiative by the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics (IAC) to promote science.
The Teide Observatory recently celebrated its Open House Days, attracting approximately one thousand people. This annual event, organized by the Canary Islands Institute of Astrophysics (IAC), coincides with the summer solstice and reinforces the institution's commitment to scientific outreach and public access to its facilities.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Observatory's team and the IAC's Communication and Scientific Culture Unit (UC3), with support from the Fundación Canaria Cajasiete-Pedro Modesto Campos, aims to humanize scientific activity. It seeks to showcase the daily operations of one of the world's leading astrophysical complexes, highlighting both its advanced technology and the dedication of its staff.
Over two days, attendees participated in guided tours lasting about three hours, divided into four shifts. The itinerary included nine thematic stations led by IAC researchers and technicians. Visitors explored the functioning of professional telescopes, learned about solar physics, cosmology, and the cosmic microwave background, and engaged in workshops and real-time solar observations.

"Seeing the enthusiasm and curiosity in people's eyes as they gaze at the telescopes is the greatest reward for the entire team's effort. Year after year, the response from the Canarian society exceeds our expectations, and it fills us with immense pride to see that they feel this Observatory is something of their own and fundamental for the Islands."

"Beyond the scientific data, these events allow us to convey the excitement of discovering the universe. It's a very inspiring reunion where science embraces society; an ideal opportunity for citizens to fall in love with the technological excellence generated here and become aware of the fortune we have in safeguarding one of the purest and cleanest skies on the planet."
For those who could not attend, the Teide Observatory offers guided tours throughout the year. Interested individuals can consult available options and make reservations through the Visits section on the center's official website.
