Pope Leo XIV's visit to Tenerife will feature a curated selection of Canarian gastronomic products, prepared by Hecansa students, to showcase the archipelago's culinary richness.

During his historic visit to the Canary Islands, Pope Leo XIV will taste a gastronomic selection highlighting the archipelago's most representative flavors. The menu, designed by students from the Canary Islands Hotel Schools (Hecansa), aims to showcase the talent of future hospitality professionals and promote local products.
Confirmed products include wines from Lanzarote, particularly those made with volcanic Malvasia grapes, such as the Reserva de Familia 2022 from Bodegas El Grifo, the oldest winery in the islands. These wines are characterized by their cultivation in volcanic soil, which gives them a unique personality.
The culinary offering will also feature emblematic cheeses from Fuerteventura and Santa María de Guía, areas with a renowned cheese-making tradition. Additionally, traditional Canarian pastry creations will be presented, with sweets from municipalities like Moya and Tejeda.
Aware of the pontiff's fondness for chocolate, the dessert will include a special nod to this ingredient. The general structure of the meals will comprise meat as the main course for lunch and fish for dinner, reflecting the Atlantic and maritime identity of the Canary Islands.
The Bishop of the Canary Islands, José Mazuelos, explained that the Pope has not made specific requests, usually adapting to local cuisines. The visit, scheduled for June 11 and 12, will conclude in Tenerife with pastoral meetings and institutional events.
