Cafetería Los Majuelos, located in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife, has qualified for the grand final of the 2026 Spanish Bocata Championship. Its proposal, named Origen, will compete against fourteen other creations from various Spanish regions at the event held this Monday in Madrid.
This competition brings together the most outstanding sandwiches on the national scene in the kitchens of El Puerto del Escondite, situated in the Santander Group Financial City. Although establishments from twelve autonomous communities are participating, attention from the Canary Islands is focused on this proposal from La Laguna, which hopes to impress the judging panel.
“"A tribute to Canarian tradition, with respect for its flavors. Its heart is shredded chicken in escabeche, bathed in an 8-hour broth, full of aromas and depth. Roasted garlic aioli, Flor cheese of Canarian origin, sweet and sour gherkin, Canarian pepper jam, and fresh arugula complete the crispy ciabatta. A sandwich that tastes of the Canary Islands and celebrates its gastronomy in every bite."
The jury responsible for the final decision is composed of prominent figures from the gastronomic sector, including Michelin-starred chefs and culinary communication experts. They will be responsible for evaluating crucial aspects such as flavor, technique, originality, and presentation.
In addition to Los Majuelos' participation, the Canary Islands have another representative in the final: the establishment Oh my Boc, from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which presents a chicken thigh sandwich. Nevertheless, Tenerife's Origen proposal has garnered special attention, already establishing itself among the best in the country and now seeking definitive recognition.
