The Government of the Canary Islands has updated the weather situation, moving to a pre-alert for high temperatures in La Gomera, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria starting from 11:20 AM today, July 9.

The decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, applying the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
The affected territorial scope includes the peaks and midlands of southern La Gomera; midlands and peaks of western and southern Tenerife; peaks and slopes facing west, south, and east of Gran Canaria; and the southern half of Fuerteventura. The current alert situation has been concluded in the rest of the archipelago.
An improvement in the widespread episode of high temperatures is expected. However, isolated maximums of up to 34 ºC are anticipated in Gran Canaria and around 30-32 ºC in the mentioned areas of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Fuerteventura.
A progressive decrease in temperatures is forecast for the afternoon, meaning these areas will remain on pre-alert until 8:00 PM today.
The public is urged to follow the self-protection advice from the General Directorate of Emergencies.
