The La Laguna City Council and the Directorate General of Coasts and Maritime Space Management of the Canary Islands Government have called on the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge to execute the court order for the demolition of the Charco de la Arena Club in Punta del Hidalgo, aiming to restore this natural enclave for public use.
This decision comes after the Supreme Court rejected in March the appeal filed by the club's ownership. This ruling upholds the previous judgment by the National Court, which had ordered the demolition following the denial of an extension to the concession for the use of this coastal strip.
To further the recovery of the area, the La Laguna Urban Planning Management will present to the Canary Islands Government the planned intervention projects. These include the restoration of the Camino de la Costa (also known as San Juanito) and other initiatives outlined in the local urban agenda.
Based on these reports, the regional executive will request an act of reversion of the natural space from the Ministry for Ecological Transition. Once the domain returns to State ownership, it will be transferred to the La Laguna City Council through an agreement, allowing for the execution of coastal intervention projects, including actions in the area currently occupied by Charco de la Arena.

"The meeting marks the beginning of the timeline for the actions we have planned for the coming months so that the environmental recovery of Charco de la Arena can happen as soon as possible."
A municipal spokesperson assured that, considering the definitive ruling, the City Council and the Canary Islands Government will present a roadmap to the State so that residents of Punta del Hidalgo and the general public can once again enjoy this coastal corner, which has been in private hands for so many years.

"We will work hand in hand with the State to accelerate this common objective that affects the public spaces of the La Laguna coastline."
On March 4, the First Section of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court rejected the appeal by the Sociedad Recreativa Piscina Charco de la Arena, confirming the National Court's ruling that denied the concession extension. This decision obliges the society to demolish the club, built in the mid-1960s, and restore the land to its previous state.
