The family of Juan Manuel, a resident of Telde, Gran Canaria, is experiencing a "situation of extreme vulnerability" for seven years due to alleged harassment by a neighbor. The events, reported on the program 'Herrera en COPE Gran Canaria,' include loud music, banging, insults, and a high number of false reports that have severely impacted the health of the affected man's father, who passed away a year ago.
According to Juan Manuel's account, the conflict began in late 2020 with "insults and banging on the walls" directed at his parents, both in their eighties. The situation escalated with a campaign of false accusations, with "650 calls to 112" recorded in a short period, falsely accusing the family of disturbing her. Police officers visited daily, confirming the falsity of the accusations.
“"I finished your father, now I'm going for the old woman"
The victim's testimony highlights a particularly grave point after his father's death, claiming the neighbor "boasts about having eliminated my father" and has directly threatened his mother with the phrase: "Now I'm going for the old woman."
The family's daily ordeal includes "music and television sets pressed against the walls" from five in the morning and hammer blows, as well as acts of vandalism such as throwing varnish against the facade or placing sticks in the lock. Despite repeated complaints, the family feels abandoned by the justice system, as a judge dismissed the case considering it a "neighborly dispute of 'you say, I say'". The family has appealed the decision to the Provincial Court.
The police, according to Juan Manuel, have informed them that they "do not have sufficient means if a judge is not involved" to intervene, urging them to continue reporting. The family has a scheduled appointment with the Ombudsman to present their case.
The neighbor's behavior is perplexing; she has reportedly slept "under a truck in the town square" to reinforce her version of the noise disturbances, despite a forensic examination declaring her "fit for anything." The situation creates fear in the neighborhood, preventing other residents from testifying, and the woman's own family has no contact with her. The affected family refuses to leave their home of 60 years, but desperation is growing amid fears that "one day, a tragedy will occur."
