The morning of Monday, April 6, was disrupted by two road incidents involving the Tenerife Tram in the metropolitan area. Both collisions, occurring within just an hour of each other, affected Line 1 and resulted in one minor injury and significant material damage.
The first incident took place in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, near the Museum of Science and the Cosmos and the Gracia stop, around 1:00 PM. A vehicle crossed the tram's path as it ascended towards Trinidad. Despite the spectacular nature of the impact, no injuries were reported, although traffic in the area was affected during the vehicle's removal.
Shortly after, as the service attempted to return to normal, a second alert activated emergency protocols. At 1:21 PM, the 112 Canarias coordination center received a report of a new collision on Avenida de Bélgica, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, near the Cruz del Señor stop.
In this second accident, the consequences were more significant for the occupants of the car. The driver of the involved vehicle required attention from the medical staff of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) due to injuries sustained from the side impact. The preliminary report indicated that the affected person had minor injuries and was stabilized at the scene, pending a possible transfer to a hospital.
These two almost simultaneous incidents caused intermittent delays in Metrotenerife's usual frequency. The Local Police has taken charge of the corresponding reports to clarify the exact causes of both collisions, while maintenance workers inspected the affected units to ensure their proper functioning.
