Funcom has confirmed the release date for ‘Dune: Awakening’ on consoles, set to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series on September 22, 2026. This open-world survival title, inspired by Frank Herbert's work and Denis Villeneuve's film franchise, will launch on these platforms with a version that includes all improvements and content released for the PC version to date.
The console edition is presented as the most complete to date, integrating all content that has debuted on PC, along with a series of updates that will be implemented simultaneously across all platforms. The most significant new feature is the inclusion of a single-player mode, allowing users to explore the planet Arrakis individually. This mode will offer the ability to adjust key experience parameters, such as combat difficulty, progression speed, resource gathering, and experience point acquisition.
The game will feature an interface and control scheme optimized for console controllers. Developers assert that both PS5 and Xbox Series X will achieve 60 frames per second in performance mode. Rui Casais, CEO of Funcom, described the launch as a significant achievement, the culmination of a year's work to deliver the best version of ‘Dune: Awakening’.
Additionally, players on all platforms will gain access to features added after the original PC launch. These include the option to enjoy a purely PvE (player versus environment) experience, avoiding player-versus-player combat. The endgame content system has also been revamped, and tools have been implemented to prevent progress loss in bases and vehicles during extended absences.
The update also introduces new locations, more character customization options, and other elements designed to enhance the gameplay experience. Creative Director Joel Bylos stated that the goal is to provide the most faithful rendition of the ‘Dune’ universe. The studio has also confirmed plans to release movie-inspired thematic content later this year.
Pre-orders for the various editions are now available. The standard edition will be priced at 49.99 euros, the Deluxe Edition will cost 69.99 euros, and the Ultimate Edition will be 89.99 euros, with the latter two offering early access to the game.
Funcom has also confirmed that ‘Dune: Awakening’ will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one, September 22. It will support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing for shared progress between PC and Xbox. Furthermore, it will be compatible with ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Cloud Gaming. On PC, the game supports Steam Deck and is available on GeForce Now.
