The situation has raised concerns as patients continue to be treated in the old outpatient clinic, located just a few meters away. A report from the Municipal Technical Office has deemed an immediate relocation of services as a priority, following the discovery of risks regarding falling debris and other structural failures in the current building.
The facility currently in use, which is over 35 years old, suffers from dampness, leaks, and mold. According to the technical document, the building is no longer capable of providing a safe and adequate environment, noting that minor repairs are no longer cost-effective or permanent solutions.
“"The exterior structures and overhangs show direct leaks that evidence failures in the original waterproofing, with the consequent risk of minor detachments."
The new facility spans 1,025 square meters across three floors, featuring six adult consultation rooms, two pediatric rooms, and an emergency area. The project, which required an investment of over 1.6 million euros, is situated on land transferred to the Government of the Canary Islands.
Although the El Rosario local government recently completed the undergrounding of power lines on La Sardinera street to facilitate the opening, the center remains shut. So far, the Regional Ministry of Health has not provided details regarding the expected opening date for the new facility.
