The visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife, scheduled for Friday, June 12, will be a highly significant event, packing an intense agenda into just six hours. The pontiff is expected to land at Tenerife North Airport around 9:00 AM and depart for Rome at 3:00 PM.
During his stay, the Pope will hold three key meetings and preside over a Eucharist that will mark the conclusion of his pilgrimage through Spain. Migration will be the central theme of his visit to the Canary Islands, with notable activities planned for the port of Arguineguín in Gran Canaria and at the Las Raíces center and Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna, Tenerife.
“"The Pope's message on migration will allow us to focus on this situation, given the many times the Canary Islands have not felt heard or understood; the Pope's presence will be a word of encouragement for all those working with migration and a call at national and international levels."
Pope Leo XIV's itinerary is built on three pillars: charity, expressed through meetings with social assistance organizations; the Eucharist, present throughout the journey; and encounter, both with young people and with civil society, migrants, and local churches. In Tenerife, a meeting with migrants is planned at the Las Raíces reception center, where the pontiff will deliver a greeting.
Subsequently, he will proceed to the Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna, where approximately 1,500 people are expected, with a capacity for 4,000. There, the Pope will deliver a speech addressed to members of migrant integration organizations, including representatives from the BuenSamaritano Foundation, Cáritas Tenerife, the La Restinga center, and the Don Bosco project.
The tour in Tenerife will include a journey along Viana Street, where he will meet with the sick and elderly, before arriving at the Bishopric of Tenerife. Finally, the Pope will travel by Popemobile through various streets of Santa Cruz, concluding his visit with a thanksgiving Eucharist at the port area of the capital of Tenerife, concelebrated by the bishop of Tenerife.
