The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, has presented updated data from the Canary Islands Agricultural Holdings Registry (REAC), which now has 20,058 registered holdings. This tool, implemented since 2025, aims to improve the management of agricultural aid, facilitate product traceability, and enhance food safety.
The initial implementation included the automatic incorporation of 16,107 holdings, based on previous data. Currently, Tenerife leads the registry with 9,364 holdings, followed by La Palma (5,636), Lanzarote (2,060), Gran Canaria (1,569), La Gomera (697), El Hierro (665), and Fuerteventura (67). A total of 4,831 administrative requests have been processed.
Minister Narvay Quintero highlighted the importance of reliable information for public policy management and for providing guarantees to producers and consumers. He noted that the REAC allows for a better understanding of the sector's reality, aids in managing support, monitoring production, and strengthening food safety, while also promoting transparency and consumer confidence.
To facilitate registration and data updates, the Ministry, through the public company Gestión del Medio Rural de Canarias (GMR Canarias), offers free administrative assistance. This service assisted 2,350 individuals between March and September 2026 and is complemented by manuals and informational materials. Appointments can be requested at citapreviareac@gmrcanarias.com.
The creation of the REAC fulfills state and European legal obligations, integrating into the Agricultural, Livestock, and Agricultural Production Holdings Information System (SIEX). Registration is the responsibility of the individual or legal entity holding ownership and effectively carrying out productive activity. The SGA application allows for administrative procedures and graphical delimitation of cultivated areas.
Holders are reminded of the importance of checking and reporting any modifications to ensure the registry accurately reflects agricultural activity. Complete information on the REAC, user manuals, and registration procedures is available on the Government of the Canary Islands website, and for inquiries, contact proregagr.agricultura@gobiernodecanarias.org.
