Students from UPAEP's Sustainable Architecture Workshop have developed innovative architectural proposals to equip the Tenerife institute with a space that mitigates high temperatures and promotes thermal comfort ecologically. This initiative arose from a teaching stay by Noelia Cruz Pérez, a professor from the University of La Laguna, at UPAEP, where she taught the Sustainable Architecture course within the Global Summer program.
Coordinated with Mª Lourdes Montes de Oca Menéndez, a titular professor at UPAEP, the challenge involved analyzing the climatic and spatial conditions of IES San Matías to design passive, sustainable architectural solutions adapted to the Canarian environment. The result is a set of high technical and aesthetic quality presentation sheets that have been received with great enthusiasm by the educational center.

The director of IES San Matías, Candelaria Padrón Peña, highlighted the pedagogical value of this collaboration, emphasizing how the projects offer inspiring solutions and open a window to the world for her students. In compliance with agreements between the institutions, the authorship of the projects will be respected and recognized. The proposals will be publicly exhibited at the institute, and the delivery of diplomas and awards to the participating students is being considered.
This project exemplifies the impact of university faculty mobility, connecting research in bioclimatic architecture with the real needs of schools in the Canary Islands archipelago.
