The vessel MV Hondius is expected to arrive near the Port of Granadilla de Abona between 04:00 and 06:00 on Sunday. Before its final entry into the anchorage area, technicians from Foreign Health must authorize the transfer, at which point the evacuation protocol will be activated. The shipping company has confirmed the repatriation of 17 crew members, while another 30 will remain on board to continue the route once the passenger evacuation operation is completed.
The transfer of passengers from the MV Hondius to the tents set up in the port will be carried out in
bubble vehicles
in groups of five people and organized by nationality. The first to disembark will be the 14 Spanish citizens.
Subsequently, other adapted vehicles will be responsible for transporting the cruise ship occupants to Tenerife South Airport. This transfer will take place without contact with third parties, using a closed area enabled for direct access to the planes. The 14 Spanish citizens will be the first to board the planes prepared at the airport facilities in Granadilla de Abona.
It is estimated that, after midday, the Spanish citizens will already be admitted to the Gómez-Ulla Central Defense Hospital in Madrid, where they will complete their quarantine period. The journey from the airport to the health center will be carried out in military vehicles and under isolation.
Coordination is key: no movement between the Port of Granadilla and Tenerife South Airport will take place without the authorization of the pilot of the plane responsible for the repatriation. The instruction is to minimize time on the runway, with more than twenty aircraft ready for the evacuation of the crew to their countries of origin.
The Minister of Health and the Minister of the Interior are scheduled to visit the Port of Granadilla this afternoon, starting at 18:00, after having appeared to report on the latest details of the MV Hondius's approach to the Canary Islands.
