A new film school, Fuera de Campo, has commenced operations in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, offering specialized training endorsed by the University of La Laguna and leveraging the experience of El Viaje Films, producers of the successful film La Lucha.

The team behind El Viaje Films, the production company responsible for La Lucha, the most-viewed Canary Islands film in cinemas, has launched its own training center. The school, named Fuera de Campo, is located near La Granja Park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and began its activities on April 7.
This educational venture is supported by the University of La Laguna (ULL), which validates its university micro-credentials. The school's management emphasized that while the production company has offered occasional training in the past, the opening of this dedicated space allows for a more structured and continuous offering, aiming to strengthen the Canary Islands' audiovisual sector.

"We are very obsessed with generating new executive producers. I don't consider them competition; quite the opposite. The idea is that if many of us are working on this, we not only improve but also build an imaginary of Canary Islands cinema."

Fuera de Campo's initial offering includes four micro-credentials. These courses, recognized within the European Higher Education Area, cover areas such as executive production and film project development, international distribution and sales, location management, and project financing, budgeting, and justification. The courses are held in the afternoons and have a subsidized cost of 43.50 euros, requiring participants to be Spanish citizens, aged between 25 and 64, and hold a high school diploma or equivalent vocational qualification.
The school aims for its instructors to be active professionals in the film industry, leveraging the extensive network of contacts built by the production company over two decades of work in the Canary Islands. The name of the school, Fuera de Campo (Off-Screen), refers to a cinematic concept that emphasizes what is not seen but is crucial to the narrative, also reflecting its location on the outskirts of the capital of Tenerife.
