Justice has acted decisively against a criminal network that caused significant concern in several localities across Tenerife. The ruling by the Provincial Court of Santa Cruz de Tenerife establishes substantial sentences for those involved in a series of home invasions, emphasizing the severity of the acts as they targeted inhabited residences.
The primary defendant received the longest sentence, six years and three months in prison, for involvement in twelve crimes. A second individual was sentenced to the same term for eight assaults. Two other gang members will serve five years and three and a half years, respectively, with the latter receiving a reduced sentence due to drug addiction.
The criminal activity of this group primarily focused on inhabited homes, which increases the severity of the acts according to the Penal Code.
The burglaries occurred in various areas of the island, mainly affecting the municipalities of Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, and Arico. In El Médano, the gang was also responsible for stealing items from a parked vehicle. The criminals sought cash and valuable goods that were easy to sell on the black market, accumulating an estimated haul of over 15,000 euros in cash, along with jewelry and other items.
In addition to the prison sentences, the verdict mandates that the convicted individuals jointly and severally compensate fifteen victims for the stolen goods and, crucially, for the extensive damage caused to their homes during the assaults. Furthermore, the court ordered the immediate return of personal items recovered during searches, including family mementos belonging to one of the victims.
Such judicial resolutions are crucial for restoring public trust in the justice system, especially for crimes that generate significant social alarm and directly impact the security and privacy of homes.
