The traditional San Juan Night, one of the most magical and deeply rooted festivities in the Canary Islands, fills the island with bonfires and purification rituals on the coast. San Juan's Day is a public holiday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arucas, Telde, and Valsequillo.
In Telde, celebrations include the inauguration of a market and craft fair from 5:00 PM, followed by a meeting of weavers. In the evening, performances by Abián Reyes, Mrs. Troupé, and the Orquesta Furia Joven are scheduled. In Melenara, the XIX edition of the Mechones and a concert by the group Acuarela will take place.
Valsequillo, in the town of Tenteniguada, commemorates the XXIX Night of Witches with a snail feast, authorized bonfire burning, a batucada, and a festival with DJ Promaster and Leyenda Joven. Tomorrow will feature a livestock fair and a popular lunch.
Gáldar, in Sardina, presents a program including the inauguration of Avenida Alcalde Antonio Rosas, the raising of the Blue Flag at Sardina Beach, street parades, and a musical session by Línea DJ. The finale will be a spectacle of aquatic and aerial fireworks in the bay.
Mogán beach will host a popular pineapple roast, a performance and batucada by the Mogán Artistic Schools, followed by the San Juan bonfire lighting, a pyrotechnic display, and a festival with the Grupo Arena and DJ Cholo.
In the Agaete Valley, the celebration will unfold in Plaza de San Pedro and Antonio Eusebio El Sabillo Park, featuring a street parade, bonfire burning, pineapple roasting, and sangria.
Arucas will concentrate its events in Plaza de San Juan and Plaza de la Constitución. Performances will include Los Salvapantallas, 40 Clásicos with the group Da Igual, Tribute to Joaquín Sabina ‘500 Noches’, and Maldita EGB. There will also be a rap battle (Batalla de Gallos) and DJ Airam Vega. Tomorrow, comedian Kike Pérez will perform, and Honors and Distinctions will be presented.
San Bartolomé de Tirajana focuses on Playa del Inglés with a batucada that will parade through the shopping center to the beach. The night will feature performances by Yet Garbey and La Mekánica by Tamarindos, in addition to fireworks and a set by DJ Toni Bob. Activities are also planned in Aldea Blanca and Castillo del Romeral.
In Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Pozo Izquierdo will host tribute concerts to La Oreja de Van Gogh and Maná, followed by aquatic fireworks. In the La Blanca neighborhood, there will be storytelling, a street parade, witch burning, firecrackers, and a pineapple roast.
Artenara, located in the highlands, will light its San Juan bonfire with roasted pineapples and potatoes in Plaza de San Matías.
