The Granadilla de Abona City Council has announced it will cover the cost of bus transport to facilitate residents' attendance at the mass to be officiated by Pope Leo XIV in Santa Cruz de Tenerife on June 12.

The municipal corporation, formed by CC, PP, and Vox, stated that this measure aims to ensure citizen participation in an event of “international relevance.” Free buses will depart from the municipality to the capital of Tenerife, providing “comfortable, safe, and accessible” access for those interested.

"To bring citizens closer to a historic event such as the visit of Pope Leo XIV, fostering participation and ensuring equal access."

The Citizen Participation department of the council is finalizing the planning of routes and schedules. Detailed information regarding registration deadlines, departure points, and other organizational aspects will be published on the City Council's digital platforms in the coming weeks.
Furthermore, the delegate of the Government in the Canary Islands has suggested prioritizing teleworking and online classes for June 12 in Tenerife. This recommendation is due to the anticipated impact on mobility, with potential temporary closures on the TF-5 highway and access roads to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and La Laguna, as a result of the papal visit.
The mobility plan for the pontiff's visit has already been discussed in an initial technical meeting involving the relevant institutions. A second meeting is expected after Vatican officials visit the archipelago later this month to finalize the details of the event program.
