The Civil Guard reminds drone enthusiasts that it is essential to consult the ENAIRE Drones website before any takeoff to verify planned airspace restrictions. Prior consultation is mandatory to avoid penalties.
The ENAIRE tool already indicates a temporarily restricted zone in Tenerife for June 12, 2026, active between 06:00 and 16:00 hours, affecting the vicinity of Tenerife North airport.
A Guardia Civil agent, in a disseminated video, emphasizes the need to review flight restrictions on the ENAIRE Drones page for the day of the papal visit.
“"If you plan to fly drones on the day of the Pope's visit, you must check the ENAIRE Drones page beforehand to know the flight restrictions for that day."
Flying a drone in a restricted zone without authorization can lead to significant financial penalties, which according to the Armed Institute, can amount to up to €200,000.
The restricted zone around Tenerife North will be in effect on June 12, 2026, from 06:00 to 16:00 hours. The only exceptions considered are for IFR arrivals or departures from the airport, State aircraft, aerial means of the State Security Forces and Corps, air defense flights, and emergencies with prior coordination.
Drone users must check if their location falls within the limited area on ENAIRE Drones and refrain from flying if they do not have express authorization. Air safety regulations stipulate significant penalties depending on the severity of the act and the risk generated.
