The deceased was part of a group of swimmers undertaking a journey between Las Teresitas beach and Playa Chica. During the swim, the man reportedly fell behind to rest as he headed towards the shore.
Several residents from Playa Chica spotted the swimmer in the water, managed to bring him ashore, and immediately alerted emergency services. Personnel from the Local Police of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, agents of the National Police, medical staff from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), a medicalized ambulance, and Civil Protection volunteers were dispatched to the scene. The mobilized resources confirmed the man's death at the location.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the primary hypothesis being considered by the National Police suggests the man may have suffered a cardiac event during the swim. If confirmed, it would be considered a death by natural causes, although police inquiries and forensic results will precisely determine the circumstances of the fatality.
