The cruise ship MV Hondius, impacted by a hantavirus outbreak, is scheduled to dock next Saturday at the port of Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife, for passenger evacuation.
Foreign passengers will be repatriated to their countries of origin, while the 14 Spanish citizens on board, including a crew member, will be transferred to the Gómez Ulla Hospital in Madrid after an initial assessment in the Canary Islands.
The Minister of Health has confirmed that all passengers are currently asymptomatic. The three symptomatic cases and the ship's doctor were previously evacuated from Cape Verde, where the vessel had been anchored.
The President of the Government of the Canary Islands confirmed from Brussels that the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has received the shipowner's request for the MV Hondius, which has reported eight hantavirus cases and three fatalities, to finally dock on the island.
