A woman in Candelaria, Tenerife, gave birth at her home with telephone assistance from a coordinating nurse of the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) until an ambulance arrived.

The incident recently occurred when the 40-year-old pregnant woman, at full term, contacted the SUC emergency room. After an initial assessment, the coordinating nurse confirmed that birth was imminent and the baby was already crowning, leading to the immediate activation of a medicalized ambulance.
Throughout the process, the health coordinator maintained telephone communication, providing detailed instructions for the expulsive period. The baby was born within minutes, but initially did not breathe or cry, creating a critical situation. The nurse guided the person accompanying the mother on how to clear the newborn's airway, perform mouth-to-mouth ventilation, and initiate basic neonatal stimulation maneuvers.
Thanks to these instructions, the baby reacted within seconds, emitting a strong cry. Telephone follow-up continued, monitoring the newborn's evolution and the mother's condition, until the advanced life support team arrived at the home. Paramedics assisted both and transferred them to a hospital, where they were admitted in good general condition.
