The incident, reported by 112 Canarias, occurred in the municipality of Candelaria. A coordinating nurse from the SUC received the emergency call and, after an initial assessment, confirmed that the 40-year-old expectant mother, at full term, was already in active labor.
Given the imminent birth and the baby's appearance, healthcare coordinators immediately dispatched a medicalized ambulance to her home. Meanwhile, the SUC professional maintained telephone communication, providing detailed instructions to assist with the delivery.
The healthcare coordinator remained on the phone at all times providing instructions during the birth, and the baby was born within minutes. The person with the mother alerted the nurse that the baby was not breathing and was not crying, so they immediately received guidelines to ensure the baby's well-being.
The nurse guided the accompanying person on how to clear the newborn's airway, perform mouth-to-mouth ventilation, and initiate basic neonatal stimulation maneuvers. Thanks to these instructions, the baby reacted within seconds, emitting a strong and clear cry.
Telephone monitoring continued until the arrival of the advanced life support ambulance. The medical team assisted both mother and baby, subsequently transferring them to a hospital, where both were admitted in good general condition.
The SUC has emphasized the importance of remaining calm and providing accurate information during emergencies to ensure a rapid and effective response.
