Following the magnitude 3.9 earthquake that shook the east of Gran Canaria on Tuesday, seismic activity in the archipelago continues. The IGN has detected seven earthquakes this Wednesday, most of them concentrated in Tenerife.
Of the seven registered earthquakes, six had their epicenter in Tenerife. The remaining tremor, and the one with the highest magnitude at 2.4, was located north of the island, in the Atlantic.
The municipalities of Vilaflor de Chasna and Guía de Isora have been the most affected by seismic activity in recent hours. The earthquakes recorded during the day include magnitudes of 1.3, 1.5, 1.3, 1.6, 2.4, 1.3, and 1.2.
The strongest tremor, with a magnitude of 2.4, occurred at 00:28 hours in the ocean, at a latitude of 28.6739 and longitude -16.6877, and at a depth of 34 kilometers.
The IGN provides guidance on how to act in case of an earthquake, recommending to crouch and cover oneself under a table, remain calm, move away from furniture and windows indoors, and from buildings and electrical poles outdoors. Guidelines are also offered for those driving, using wheelchairs, or in crowded places.
