The Regional Police have launched an investigation into the management of a private care home in Tenerife for the alleged installation of video cameras in the bedrooms of its residents, including individuals with disabilities.

Officers from the Canary Islands Police (CGPC) discovered that the devices allowed for the monitoring of daily activities in these private spaces. During the inspection, it was found that the center's management lacked documentation proving express consent from users or their legal representatives, nor had they fulfilled the mandatory information requirements regarding the installation of these cameras.
These actions could constitute a violation of the right to privacy and be considered a crime under the current Penal Code.
The intervention is part of a collaboration agreement between the ministries of Presidency, Security and Public Administrations and Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families, which includes the participation of the Regional Police in the inspection of social centers and services.
These actions aim to improve the control and supervision of care resources in the Canary Islands, particularly in residential, day, and night centers that serve the elderly or disabled, ensuring the protection of their rights.
