The VEL Platform, promoted by the Tenerife Isla Solidaria Program of the Cabildo de Tenerife, aims to optimize the management of third-sector entities through process digitalization. This pioneering initiative seeks to reduce administrative burden and improve coordination between organizations and public administrations.
In its initial phase, the platform focuses on supporting food distribution processes, implementing a unified procedure to standardize workflows. Its functionalities include beneficiary identification via QR codes, household unit management, inventory control with barcodes, appointment management, automated report generation, and real-time dashboards. It also incorporates communication tools to foster coordination and prevent duplication of aid.
The technological infrastructure for the VEL Platform was developed by ITER, utilizing its TeideHPC supercomputer and the D-ALiX data center, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security. The architecture is based on virtualization and container technologies, and data processing follows anonymization criteria to comply with data protection regulations.
The project also includes a training component, with the collaboration of students from Vocational Training cycles in Web Application Development and Network Systems Administration. Following this presentation, implementation within entities, historical data migration, and user training will commence.
The roadmap includes the progressive evolution of the platform. After consolidating the food distribution module, new actors such as the Cabildo de Tenerife, municipal Social Work Units (UTS), and the Food Bank will be integrated. Subsequently, it will expand to other areas like care for the elderly, the LGTBIQ+ community, and environmental volunteering.
