The Slovenian strategist, who was previously dismissed from Dreamland Gran Canaria in March due to poor results that led to the team's relegation, now embarks on a new challenge on the neighboring island. The agreement was finalized following a statement released by the black and gold entity.
Through the club's social media channels, Lakovic expressed his arrival with "new energy and maximum enthusiasm." He highlighted joining a club "with identity and ambition," and acknowledged a fanbase that "never stops believing."
Lakovic's tenure at Gran Canaria was notable for winning the Eurocup in 2023, the club's first European title. He also reached the Copa del Rey semifinals in 2025 and the Eurocup final last season. However, the current campaign did not meet expectations from the outset, leading to his dismissal in March in an attempt to change the team's trajectory, though relegation ultimately could not be avoided.
Now, the Slovenian coach faces the challenge of succeeding Txus Vidorreta at the helm of the La Laguna Tenerife team.
