The rector of the University of La Laguna, Francisco García, along with the Vice-Rector for Culture and University Extension, Isabel León, and the Director of the Secretariat for Cultural Development and Library, Isabel Castells, visited the Camerata Lacunensis at their rehearsal space on Monday, August 31st. The purpose was to congratulate the choir for the two gold medals achieved at the World Choir Games, an event considered the "world championship of choirs."
The competition, held in Helsinborg, featured 160 choirs from 40 countries and brought together approximately 8,500 singers. Camerata Lacunensis stood out by winning gold medals in the categories of Folklore and indigenous a cappella music and Contemporary Music. They were one of only two Spanish groups participating, alongside Landarbaso Abesbatza from Gipuzkoa.

These medals reflect the vitality of our cultural groups, especially choirs, as we have a great tradition at the University of La Laguna."
Rector García acknowledged the merit of an amateur group that, despite personal and family sacrifices, has achieved this success. He emphasized the goal of getting closer to cultural groups to offer them support and strengthen commitment with resources, as they are an essential part of the institution's cultural projection.

Camerata Lacunensis, founded in 1993, currently has 22 members and has been directed by José Herrera since 2000. Their repertoire spans from the Renaissance to contemporary music, including both sacred and popular works. These medals add to the nearly thirty national and international awards they have garnered, along with ten recordings.
