The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, participated in Madrid in a reception hosted by King Felipe VI for the Group of World Heritage Cities of Spain, underscoring the value of the only Canarian city with this distinction.

The mayor attended the event held in the central courtyard of the Royal Palace of El Pardo, which brought together representatives from Spanish cities recognized by Unesco as World Heritage sites. During the gathering, the King was thanked by the Group's representatives for the Royal Household's commitment to the conservation and dissemination of historical heritage.
Gutiérrez positively assessed the King's sensitivity towards heritage preservation, describing him as a relevant interlocutor for the objectives of these cities. The reception, according to the mayor, served to strengthen ties between the Crown and the Group of World Heritage Cities.
The event also addressed the Group's agenda of activities, including the First Ibero-American Meeting of World Heritage Cities, scheduled for March 2027 in Cáceres. This meeting will bring together 64 Ibero-American cities to establish a network for exchange and address common challenges in heritage management, tourism, and neighborhood life.
It was recalled that La Laguna, declared a World Heritage site in 1999 for its urbanistic and historical value, will celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of its inscription on the Unesco list in 2029. Other cities such as Toledo and Cáceres will commemorate their 40th anniversary in 2026, and Cuenca its 30th.
