A judge, victim of an assault by footballer Maikel Mesa and two companions in La Laguna, has described being attacked, pushed by a car, and subjected to a chokehold.

The assault suffered by a judge at the hands of C.D. Tenerife footballer Maikel Mesa and two other individuals in La Laguna has come to light. The victim has broken his silence to describe the sequence of events that led to a conviction for the player. The judge, who prefers to remain anonymous, was walking alone at night when he was accosted by the group. According to his testimony, the trigger was an insult, "bald", and when he turned to ask for an explanation, the assault began.
The attack started from behind. "They grabbed me by the jacket to pull me against the street wall, and the third one took the opportunity to kick me in the back," the victim recounted. While two assailants held him firmly against the wall, Maikel Mesa delivered a headbutt to his face, and another individual punched him. The victim's glasses were knocked to the ground.
After the initial assault, the attackers headed towards a nearby parking lot. The victim decided to follow them to alert 112 and photograph the vehicle. Upon entering the parking area, Maikel Mesa got behind the wheel. To prevent them from escaping, the judge stood in front of the car with his hands on the hood. Despite requests from a parking attendant to stop, the footballer accelerated, pushing the judge with the vehicle at increasing speed, in a maneuver that could have been very serious.
The violence continued in the parking lot, where Maikel Mesa applied a chokehold, known as a "mataleón", to steal his mobile phone. The judge still suffers from persistent neck and throat pain, in addition to the nose injury and bruises.
Thanks to the license plate number, the police identified Maikel Mesa. The footballer and his companions confessed where they had thrown the victim's mobile phone, which was recovered though damaged. The plea agreement imposes a fine of 1,200 euros on Maikel Mesa, plus compensation of 135 euros for the phone and 250 euros for the injuries, figures the victim considers insufficient.
The assaulted judge has not received any apologies and hopes that the recordings from the parking lot cameras, which are part of the judicial case, will be made public to demonstrate the nature of the attack and the "completely gratuitous and unnecessary violence" he suffered.
