Representatives from regional, state, and international entities met this Saturday morning at the Port of Granadilla de Abona to finalize the details of the MV Hondius disembarkation operation. The president of the Port Authority of Tenerife, who was the only one to make statements after the meeting, assured that all parties are "aligned so that the ship is anchored for the shortest possible time and with the greatest safety."
“"We are all coordinated so that the ship is here for the shortest possible time, between 24 and 36 hours."
During the operation, no port workers or activity will be allowed in the area, nor will navigation be permitted, until the disembarkation and other maneuvers, such as refueling and provisioning, are completed. It has been emphasized that only logistical support will be provided.
Regarding concerns expressed by some port workers, the president of the Port Authority clarified that "those who are protesting do not represent the entire staff" and that protocols have been communicated to employees, who have shown their willingness to cooperate.
Navigation conditions are favorable, allowing the cruise ship to advance at a good pace. Although the exact time of arrival and anchoring is not yet defined, it is expected to occur at first light, between 4:00 and 6:00 AM. This final decision will rest with the maritime captain. Once disembarkation is ready, Spanish passengers will be the first to be transferred by bus from the Muelle Rivera del Puerto directly to Tenerife South Airport - Reina Sofía, and then fly to Gómez Ulla Hospital in Madrid.
Passenger evacuation will be organized by nationality and volume, prioritizing the largest groups, provided that repatriation planes are available at the airport. The bay will remain closed throughout the day until the evacuation of passengers and crew is completed.
The coordination meeting was attended by figures such as the spokesperson for the regional Government, the Secretary of State for Health, the director of Civil Protection, the president of the Port Authority of Tenerife, and the director of the Canarian Health Service (SCS).
