The Minister of Universities, Migdalia Machín, presented the funding agreement proposal for Canary Islands public universities (2027-2030), which includes a 16% increase in regional funds and seeks greater stability.

The headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands recently hosted the presentation of the proposed new funding agreement for the Canary Islands public universities for the period 2027-2030. The meeting was attended by the president of the Social Council of the University of La Laguna, Francisco Almeida, and the secretary of the body, as well as the president and vice-president of the Social Council of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, detailed the main lines of the proposal, which outlines a multi-year funding framework with a 16% increase in regional funding. The document also proposes a new structure to enhance economic stability, guarantee structural needs, and promote more predictable planning of university activities.
The proposal includes mechanisms to address the ordinary operational needs of public universities, strengthen their planning capacity, and link part of the funding to the achievement of specific objectives, in line with the new model planned for the aforementioned period.
