The song, which will serve as the soundtrack for Pope Leo XIV's visit to Spain, was unveiled on Thursday. It is a collective composition that blends a contemporary style with a message focused on peace, hope, and the importance of empathy towards others.
Eleven composers associated with contemporary Catholic music, including Pablo Cebrián, Toño Casado, Javi Caño, and Marcos Ricbourd, participated in the creation of this piece. The initiative was driven by the Viva Fe musical community, aiming to create a lasting theme that resonates with today's audience.
A notable aspect of the hymn is the involvement of over 1,700 choir voices, recorded simultaneously in the four cities the pontiff will visit between June 6 and 12: Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. Specifically, recordings took place at the Almudena Cathedral (Madrid), the Sagrada Familia Basilica (Barcelona), the La Laguna Cathedral (Tenerife), and the Gran Canaria Cathedral (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
The lyrics of the song revolve around the idea of «looking up», in line with the official motto of the visit, and contain references to peace and current social realities, including images of migration in the accompanying music video.
The hymn is now available on digital platforms and the Ecclesia channel. All proceeds from its distribution will be entirely allocated to social projects of the dioceses in the cities included in the papal tour. Additionally, registration opened this Thursday for those wishing to attend the scheduled events in the Canary Islands, which include a mass at the Estadio de Gran Canaria and another in Puerto de la Cruz.
