The Primary Care psychology teams of the Tenerife Health Area have held a working meeting to coordinate actions and intervention criteria, handling over 25,000 individual appointments in the past year.

The Primary Care psychology teams of the Tenerife Health Area have held a working meeting to coordinate actions and intervention criteria. Over the past year, these professionals attended a total of 25,033 individual appointments and nearly a hundred group sessions.
During the session, the seventeen professionals integrated into the Primary Care network analyzed complex clinical cases, unified intervention criteria, and set coordinated work goals. This work is based on scientific rigor and evidence-based methodology, ensuring safe and effective interventions.
The Psychological Care program in the health centers of the Canary Islands, initiated in 2022 by the Canary Health Service (SCS), currently has 53 professionals across the archipelago. In Tenerife, coverage extends to seventeen Basic Health Zones, consolidating community mental health care on the island.
Since September 2025, over 25,033 individual appointments and 96 group sessions have been registered, addressing topics such as anxiety, depression, or grief. The implementation aims to improve the management of common mental disorders, prioritizing psychotherapy for mild-to-moderate anxiety and depression.
The SCS seeks to ensure equity in access to mental health resources. The incorporation of psychologists in Primary Care aims to improve care for common mild or moderate mental health problems in the adult population and contribute to prevention.
Early detection of pathologies and prevention of chronicity are key. Healthcare psychologists in the public sector ensure ethical and rigorous practice through continuous updating and technical supervision.
The meeting also included professionals from island devices and specialized units for Occupational Risk Prevention, the Support Service for Transgender People, the Ambulatory Psychosocial Unit for Migrant Children, and the Health Promotion and Community Health Unit of the Tenerife Primary Care Management.
