The ‘Salud con Z’ project, promoted by the Primary Care Management of Tenerife in coordination with the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, has developed a total of 1,449 group sessions and 690 Youth Health Classroom consultations during the 2025-2026 academic year. These activities took place in 61 public Compulsory Secondary Education centers on the island, with the participation of professionals from 36 Basic Health Zones.
The initiative aims to foster healthy lifestyle habits among the adolescent population and prevent risky behaviors. The data reflect the commitment of Primary Care professionals to health promotion in the educational field, reaching 16,346 students.
Multidisciplinary teams, composed of family medicine, nursing, pediatrics, psychology, physiotherapy, midwifery, social work, and oral health professionals, addressed various topics. Comprehensive sexual health was the main subject covered this year, along with mental health, addiction prevention, information and communication technologies, healthy eating, promotion of physical activity, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The ‘Salud con Z’ project strengthens the links between the healthcare and educational systems, offering adolescents a close space for learning healthy habits. Objectives include improving health status and preventing diseases, as well as bringing healthcare professionals closer to a population group that often demands little assistance and has a low perception of risk.
Group sessions are planned and developed in 1st to 4th year ESO classes, adapting health content to different ages. Furthermore, the project offers individualized attention through the Youth Health Classroom within the educational centers, allowing direct contact between health agents and adolescents.
The Tenerife Primary Care Management reaffirms with this initiative its commitment to health promotion in adolescence and the development of community actions that reinforce the role of Primary Care in the prevention and well-being of young people.
