Strong winds recorded this Thursday in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura have led to the diversion of up to eight flights, mostly to Tenerife South Airport.

According to information from Aena sources, by 2:00 PM, Fuerteventura Airport was the most affected, registering five diversions. These included flights originating from Tenerife North and Gran Canaria, which had to return to their departure points.
Additionally, three aircraft from Seville, Madrid, and Warsaw, respectively, were rerouted to Tenerife South Airport. The situation also impacted Gran Canaria, where a flight from Gothenburg, bound for the island, ultimately had to land in Tenerife South.
In Lanzarote, two flights that departed from London Stansted and Dublin were also diverted to Tenerife South Airport, establishing this facility as the primary receiving point for flights affected by adverse weather conditions.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has extended warnings for coastal phenomena and strong winds across the archipelago until Saturday. The risk for strong waves in Lanzarote has been elevated to an orange level, while the rest of the islands maintain yellow warnings for the same reason, in addition to yellow warnings for winds throughout the archipelago.
