The island of Tenerife is participating in the 2026 European Artistic Craft Days, featuring a program from April 7 to 12 aimed at enhancing the cultural value of artisan trades.

Under the slogan 'With heart in the craft,' this initiative brings together more than twenty activities across various locations on the island. The main objective is to highlight the artisanal heritage, promote its transmission between generations, and emphasize its connection to Tenerife's cultural identity.
The program was unveiled in the Noble Hall of the Insular Palace by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Ibero-American Museum of Artistic Crafts of Tenerife (MAIT) and the Insular Artisan Company. It involved collaboration with several municipalities and active participation from the artisans themselves.

"This event reinforces Tenerife's commitment to craftsmanship as a living heritage, which not only preserves our history but also opens new opportunities for the future linked to creativity, design, and employment."

Efraín Medina · Island Councillor for Employment and Education
Medina stressed that craftsmanship is synonymous with identity, memory, and community, advocating for the protection of these trades and their projection towards new generations. He also highlighted the involvement of the municipalities and the crucial role of artisans as key figures in these events.
One of the central events will take place on April 10 at the La Recova Art Center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where 28 new artisan cards will be awarded. The day will also include activities from the Mida Lab creative laboratory, such as a showroom, a round table, and a Pechakucha event.
The diverse program combines tradition, innovation, and citizen participation, offering workshops in pottery, basketry, candlemaking, textile decoration, embroidery, and wool work. Exhibitions focusing on traditional attire, vegetable fibers, and the evolution of various crafts will also be featured.
The MAIT will play a significant role with its educational offerings for schoolchildren and young people, reinforcing its work in disseminating and preserving artisanal heritage. This includes school workshops on pottery, palm basketry, cochineal, and percussion musical instruments, as well as open days at the museum. A notable activity is the donation to the MAIT of two pieces of traditional Palestinian attire with tatreez embroidery, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2021.
The program extends to municipalities such as La Orotava, Candelaria, Puerto de la Cruz, La Guancha, El Sauzal, Santa Úrsula, Güímar, La Laguna, Icod de los Vinos, Arona, and Adeje, with proposals designed for various age groups. This further solidifies Tenerife's position as a leading territory in commemorating the European Artistic Craft Days.
