The Minister of Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, explained that these works seek to offer more dignified care, preventing women from sharing spaces with their alleged aggressors. This initiative arises from the recognition that the previous centralization of the courts of La Laguna, Güímar and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Palace of Justice lacked adequate infrastructure to properly assist victims and their children.
To remedy this situation, one of the courts has been relocated from the Palace of Justice of Tres de Mayo to a new premises in the El Cabo building, while the other has been internally reorganized. Thanks to these changes, the area dedicated to violence against women has increased its surface by 250 square meters.
The expansion has allowed for the creation of two victim care rooms, one of them equipped with a children's area, in addition to a courtroom, a multipurpose room for meetings with lawyers, and a new office distribution. The intervention also included the redistribution of spaces with new partitions, the creation of a central corridor, and the installation of acoustic insulation solutions to reinforce privacy in all areas.
“"The works have been carried out to offer more dignified care and prevent women from having to share spaces with their alleged aggressor."
One of the most significant advances is the incorporation of an independent access with a double door, specifically designed to prevent the victim from encountering the alleged aggressor, by separating the waiting and viewing areas. Additionally, direct accesses have been enabled from the victim care rooms to the courtroom, eliminating the need to pass through the corridor and thus improving protection and reducing tense situations. The works also included the replacement of luminaires and the use of part of the existing furniture.
