Pizzería Puncinella, situated at Callejón del Combate, 7, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is joining the imminent visit of Pope Leo XIV to the island, scheduled for June 12th, with a unique culinary creation: the ‘Vatican Pizza‘. This dish aims to convey values such as unity, peace, and fraternity, inspired by the Holy Father's arrival.
Fau El Mahdi, the establishment's manager, explains that the proposal was born “with a lot of heart” and with the intention of paying homage to an event they consider historic for the Tenerife capital. The pizza, with Italian inspiration, combines mozzarella and scamorza in its base, with a creamy burrata in the center. It is complemented by confit tomatoes, homemade basil cream, and delicate wafer slices.
El Mahdi highlights the symbolic meaning of the creation, noting that the white mozzarella represents purity. The establishment intends to offer this special pizza to the Pontiff when he passes by the restaurant in the popemobile, blending enthusiasm, Italian tradition, and local creativity in the heart of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
With this initiative, the pizzeria seeks to contribute to the festive atmosphere generated by the papal visit, offering a recipe that, through its ingredients, aims to be a message of peace, fraternity, and shared celebration during the Pope's stay in Tenerife.
