The historic regatta, jointly organized by the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife and the Clube Naval do Funchal , brings together 30 boats, with 22 being from the Canary Islands and 8 from Madeira . Approximately 150 sailors are undertaking the challenge of the 262 nautical miles (about 485 kilometers) separating the two archipelagos.
This competition, which has fostered a sporting and maritime relationship between the Canary Islands and Madeira since 1978, stands as a benchmark oceanic crossing between the territories and is recognized as the oldest exchange sporting competition between the islands.
The first boats are expected to arrive in Madeira between September 3rd and 4th. The awards ceremony, which will conclude this edition, is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th, in Funchal .
