The Island of Tenerife is gearing up for an April full of tradition and festivity, welcoming the season of romerías and 'bailes de magos' (magicians' dances). After months of anticipation, the streets will be filled with the aroma of 'carne fiesta', the sound of the timple, and the vibrant colors of traditional costumes, solidifying these celebrations as a cornerstone of Canarian culture.
The town of Tegueste will be the main highlight of the month with the Romería de San Marcos Evangelista, an event that goes beyond a mere party to become a living tribute to Tenerife's agrarian tradition. Its carts, meticulously decorated with agricultural products such as seeds, grains, and legumes, are the result of months of artisanal work.
The calendar of events in Tegueste includes the Children's Magos Dance on April 19, 2026, a space dedicated to new generations to proudly wear the 'mago' costume. The main day will arrive on Sunday, April 26, 2026, with the LVII Romería in honor of San Marcos Evangelista, where the historic center will be adorned with a parade of carts, the boats of Tegueste (La Rama, El Palomar, San Luis, and El Socorro), and folk groups from across the archipelago.
Beyond Tegueste, the north of the island will also celebrate its traditions. Icod de los Vinos will host the Paseo de las Tradiciones and its Magos Dance on April 25, 2026, under the imposing presence of the Millenary Dragon Tree. In the south, La Sabinita, in Arico, will close the month on April 30 with its Magos Dance, valued for its intimate and authentic character.
To fully enjoy these festivities, it is recommended to use public transport, as TITSA usually reinforces its lines (such as 050 and 051) to facilitate access to the town of Tegueste. Furthermore, it is essential to respect traditional attire, correctly wearing the 'mago' costume and avoiding modern elements that clash with the cultural aesthetic. Tenerife is preparing for an unforgettable April, where local wine, 'papas arrugadas', and folklore will be the main protagonists.
