The Tenerife tram will activate a special operation this Friday for the visit of Pope Leo XIV, reinforcing Line 1 with double units and 10-minute frequencies to facilitate travel.

To mark the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Tenerife this Friday, Metrotenerife has designed a special operation to facilitate mobility in the metropolitan area and accommodate the expected thousands of attendees. The main measure involves reinforcing Line 1 of the Tenerife Tram.
Line 1 will operate with double trams, offering a frequency of 10 minutes. This setup will allow for a transport capacity of up to 4,800 passengers per hour. The Mobility Councilor of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Eulalia García, highlighted the tram's crucial role as a "safe, comfortable, and efficient" alternative for travel to the scheduled events.
The route of Line 1 will undergo temporary modifications between 6:00 AM and 10:30 AM, operating only between La Trinidad and Teatro Guimerá. During this period, the stops at Fundación and Intercambiador will be out of service. Subsequently, from 10:30 AM onwards, the service will adjust to run between La Trinidad and La Paz, excluding the stops at Weyler, Teatro Guimerá, Fundación, and Intercambiador.
Meanwhile, Line 2 of the Tenerife Tram will maintain its usual operation throughout the day. Metrotenerife has announced that this line will remain an option for regular users, while Line 1 will handle the main capacity reinforcement and security adjustments.
The normalization of service on Line 1 will occur progressively in the afternoon, in coordination with the Security Forces. Full service restoration will depend on the operation's progress and the reopening of affected sections.
Metrotenerife advises users to plan their journeys in advance by consulting special schedules and routes. It is recommended to avoid last-minute travel and be aware of the non-operational stops in the center of Santa Cruz de Tenerife during the morning. The return to normal will be gradual.
