After ten years at the helm, the Bilbao-born coach Txus Vidorreta has confirmed his departure from La Laguna Tenerife. This decision marks the end of the most decorated and stable period in the aurinegro entity's recent history, ushering in a new phase of reconstruction for the club.
The departure follows the team's elimination in the Liga Endesa playoffs against Barça. In his last post-match press conference, a visibly tired Vidorreta hinted at his potential farewell, citing personal reasons and the toll of extensive travel and time away from home.
The coach praised the immense effort of his squad throughout a demanding season, acknowledging that a lack of freshness in the latter stages of the match against the Catalan team impacted their performance. Despite the lingering regret of not forcing a different outcome, Vidorreta leaves with pride in the level of enthusiasm maintained by the players, management, and staff.
With the confirmation of his departure, La Laguna Tenerife bids farewell to the architect who established the club in the elite of Spanish and European basketball. Under his guidance, CB Canarias has achieved historic titles and qualifications, including two Basketball Champions Leagues, a Copa del Rey final, and nine appearances in the ACB playoffs.
