Club Voleibol Guaguas Las Palmas has announced the signing of Willner Rivas, their fifth acquisition for the upcoming season, thus reinforcing the squad of the reigning Superliga champions.

The Venezuelan attacking receiver, 31 years old and 1.95 meters tall, joins from Narbonne. An international for Venezuela and captain of his national team, Rivas lands in Gran Canaria with the intention of bringing leadership, power, and experience to the team.
The deal, finalized two weeks ago, stems from mutual interest between the player and the club. "My agent told me the club was interested in me, and shortly after, I also received messages. I know Guaguas is a great team that competes for many titles and is always among the best," stated the new yellow-clad player, who will wear the number 19.
Rivas arrives to bolster the reception and attack for the team coached by Sergio Miguel Camarero. The Venezuelan player made it clear he is not here to replace anyone specific: "I'm not coming to replace Osmany Juantorena; I'm coming to give my best and help the team however I can," he assured. He describes himself as "aggressive, competitive, and always willing to give my best."
The player sees Guaguas as an opportunity to continue growing and learning from his teammates, despite not closely following the Spanish Superliga due to his demanding professional routine. In the locker room, he will reunite with Miki Fornés, with whom he previously played.
With extensive international experience, Rivas will relocate to Gran Canaria with his family. "I've only known Barcelona and Madrid, so I'm really looking forward to arriving on the island and discovering every corner," he concluded.
