Five years after its inception, the encounter has established itself as a benchmark in watercolor art, attracting creators from Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, as well as various regions of the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands.
The mayor of El Paso, Eloy Martín, highlighted the deep connection of watercolor with the local artistic tradition, inspired by the area's rich landscapes, light, and colors. He emphasized the figure of master artist Antonio González Suárez as a continuous reference for the municipality and his legacy.
Martín also noted that reaching the fifth edition is a recognition of an artistic trajectory linked to the environment, which serves as inspiration and allows for the preservation and projection of tradition, bringing it closer to new generations. He expressed his satisfaction in annually counting on the presence of Carmen González Cossío, the honoree's daughter.
For a week, the landscapes of El Paso will serve as a stage for artistic creation through outdoor painting sessions, workshops, and public activities, aiming to democratize access to watercolor and foster community participation in the creative process.
The Councilor for Culture and Festivities, Irinova Hernández, emphasized the event's evolution, positioning it as a significant date on El Paso's cultural agenda, facilitating a enriching exchange between artists and the public.
Hernández thanked the commitment of the Cabreles Association and its president, Jorge Monterrey, as well as all participants, the support from the Cabildo de La Palma, and the collaboration of Luis Ortega Abraham and Artemiranda.
The El Paso City Council reaffirms its commitment to this initiative and to promoting a cultural program that fosters creation and exchange, projecting the municipality's image.
The program includes inaugurations, master classes led by renowned watercolorists such as José Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros Sánchez, Evaristo Callo Anco, Fermín García Sevilla, Juan Carlos Camacho Hernández, and Conrado Díaz, among others. There will also be live painting sessions in various natural settings and workshops for children and seniors.
A highlight is the opening of the collective exhibition of works from the encounter on Tuesday, August 18, at the Casa de la Cultura Braulio Martín Hernández. The closing ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 20, with contributions from Carmen González Cossío and Luis Ortega Abraham, and the presentation of distinctions to the participating watercolorists.
