The public company Gestión y Planeamiento Territorial y Medioambiental (Gesplan), attached to the Canary Islands Government's Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, has reinforced safety measures for its personnel, especially for those working outdoors. The Risk Prevention Department is currently distributing an innovative action kit designed to cope with extreme heat episodes.
The CEO of Gesplan, Miguel Ángel Pérez, highlighted the company's commitment to safety and prevention. "We must not only comply with legal stipulations but also take a further step, aiming for more practical, innovative prevention adapted to the reality of fieldwork and outdoor tasks," he stated.
Pérez emphasized that this initiative enhances safety, incident response capacity, and staff protection during outdoor or solitary work, facilitating adaptation to new climatic conditions. "Ultimately, this action, along with others we are working on, reflects Gesplan's commitment to the well-being, safety, and care of our personnel, positioning prevention as a fundamental element within the organization," he added.
The preventive kit is designed to minimize risks associated with high temperatures, considering that a significant portion of Gesplan's staff works in the field and extreme heat episodes are increasingly frequent. This measure complements existing actions and aims to improve protection, thermal comfort, and reduce the adverse effects of heat exposure.
The kit contains an evaporative cooling towel, a cooling bandana/hat, cooling wristbands, and four effervescent electrolyte tablets. These items are intended to help lower the perceived temperature, promote body heat dissipation, enhance comfort during the workday, and reduce heat fatigue.
Gesplan, with 35 years of experience in the archipelago, has established itself in areas such as territorial planning, territorial management, ecological transition, climate action, environment, emergencies, sustainability, circular economy, and animal welfare. The company has undergone a renewal and modernization process focused on innovation, internationalization, and sustainable territorial development.
