The Government of the Canary Islands will allocate 1,034.98 million euros to social policies in 2027, surpassing the one-billion-euro mark for the first time and marking a historic milestone in the archipelago's welfare funding.

The initial budget for 2027 for the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood, and Families in the Canary Islands will exceed 1 billion euros, reaching 1,034.98 million. This figure represents a 23.5% increase compared to 2026, with an additional 197.24 million euros allocated to strengthen social protection, care for individuals, and the guarantee of rights.
These accounts consolidate a commitment to provide stable resources for public services and benefits, with special attention to the most vulnerable groups. Minister Candelaria Delgado highlighted in Parliament that this growth translates into more recognized rights and a public network with greater capacity to respond.
Excluding temporary European funds, the Ministry's ordinary and structural resources have increased by 60.9% since 2023, rising from 642.51 million to 1,033.98 million in 2027. Budget execution has remained above 90%.
The dependency care area will receive 567.15 million euros in 2027, a 120.8% increase since the beginning of the legislature, thanks to improvements in management and the implementation of a single-phase procedure.
The Social Services area will have 113.33 million euros for the Canary Citizenship Income, a 30% increase. The budget for Childhood and Families amounts to 125.52 million, a 20.04% increase, to strengthen prevention and intervention policies.
Policies for the elderly will have 20.94 million euros, while the Canary Institute for Equality will receive 14.75 million. Financial aid for victims of gender-based violence will be considered expandable credits to ensure their coverage.
