These sessions, aimed at fostering experience exchange between patients and healthcare professionals, are conducted in small groups for personalized attention. The multiple sclerosis workshop was also offered online to improve accessibility.
The Patient School, driven by the Canary Islands Health Service since 2018, already provides training on breast cancer, ostomies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and depression.
Since its inception, the initiative has gathered over 2,000 participants and organized 312 training workshops, promoting mutual support, self-care, and shared responsibility in healthcare.
The model relies on learning and experience sharing among individuals with similar conditions, supported and guided by healthcare professionals, to help them face illness and feel accompanied.
