This initiative, part of the project «Cognitive accessibility of public buildings and services of the Candelaria City Council», aims to identify barriers and facilitate the understanding and use of municipal infrastructure. The project, promoted by the Department of Social Services, Equality, and Health and developed by CreaLab eliGe, S.L., analyzes eight buildings, focusing this event on the City Hall, the Integral Recovery Center (CERI), the Citizen Service Office (SAC), and the Cultural Center of the Villa.
The mayor, Mari Brito, and the Councilor for Social Services, Olivia Pérez, welcomed participants, who formed mixed groups including seniors, people with disabilities, and vocational training students from IES Puntalarga. The goal was to answer whether the buildings and services are easy to find, understand, and use.
During guided tours led by facilitators and students, key aspects such as orientation, signage, message comprehension, and space identification were observed. Observation sheets and evaluation panels with stickers were used to record doubts, barriers, and support, as well as the ease of locating entrances, exits, and destinations.
Students from IES Puntalarga played a crucial role, assisting with tours, interviews with municipal staff, and at the evaluation points. The entity Atletas Sin Fronteras, AL LÍO for audiovisual coverage, and the Ana Armas Speech Therapy Clinic with its specialized perspective on message comprehension also collaborated.
The event concluded with a plenary session to share experiences and identified difficulties, as well as improvement opportunities. The project continues with the involvement of Fundación Candelaria Solidaria and C.O. Arcoiris, with whom further actions are planned.
The information gathered will be integrated into the technical diagnosis to formulate improvement proposals, moving towards more understandable and inclusive public services in Candelaria.
