The initiative is part of the Gen Match program, whose purpose is to create meeting spaces between different generations. The activity, held at the ‘Ven y baila’ academy, brought together 15 users from the Ingenio Senior Day Center and 15 young people from the Institute of Agüimes, who learned bachata and merengue steps.
The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Francisco Candil, highlighted the importance of these recreational activities for fostering coexistence and improving the mental and physical health of participants, while combating loneliness.
Candil emphasized that "it is important for seniors and young people to interact, chat, and have fun together because it helps improve their mental and physical health and, above all, reduce the unwanted loneliness that affects different population groups."
The Gen Match program, under the slogan ‘What unites us has no age’, seeks to promote intergenerational relationships, foster respect and empathy, and break down stereotypes such as ageism.
