The University Hospital of the Canary Islands (HUC) has reported that an electrical fault occurred on Thursday during maneuvers involving the load transfer between electrical panels. The incident affected the air conditioning system in the surgical area, necessitating the rescheduling of planned procedures and the diversion of four urgent surgeries to the Hospital of La Candelaria.
Upon detecting the fault, repair work commenced, and the protocol for the Preventive Medicine service was activated to ensure the necessary environmental safety conditions in the surgical area. The repair process was completed on Thursday evening, allowing the operating rooms to be in optimal condition for use this Friday.
The HUC is currently undergoing an upgrade to its electrical capacity, involving an investment of nearly five million euros and the incorporation of four new transformers. This initiative aims to support advancements in innovation and equipment that require higher energy output.
The Management of the HUC expressed gratitude to the professionals for their swift resolution of the incident and for the agile and effective care provided to the affected patients, while regretting any inconvenience caused. They also acknowledged the valuable collaboration of the Hospital of La Candelaria and the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) in facilitating the patient transfers and ensuring that the incident did not disrupt the scheduled urgent surgeries.
